The approach focuses on the community and is based on methods that prevent drug and substance abuse. Some of the approaches used in environmental prevention include bans and prohibition of unhealthy habits like alcohol advertising, smoking in designated areas and drug campaigns. Actions at the micro and macro level are also used widely, such as drug tests, student drug testing, roadside sobriety and providing fines and warnings for related offenses. Describing the Levels Universal Prevention covers entire populations, such as schools, cities, countries, communities, etc. and focuses on the delay or prevention of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse.
